By now you know about the crazy Sean Payton comments where he blasted Nathaniel Hackett. Payton walked his comments back like a sissy, but one thing from his quotes still hasn’t been talked about. Should George Paton worry about his job security with the Broncos?
Maybe this is just me but it feels like this is something to watch moving forward. Payton didn’t just throw Hackett under the boss. He threw the guy who hired him under the bus too. Payton used the line “dirty hands” that allowed the Hackett thing to happen. Well, Paton hired him.
The Broncos will probably be better this year under Sean Payton but in a loaded AFC, it’s going to be an uphill climb to make the playoffs. Payton has already come out and said he’s going to be pissed if Denver misses the playoffs. If Denver underachieves and misses out, guess who’s getting the blame?
I’d contend Payton is going to throw the guy under the bus who traded for Russell Wilson and hired Hackett. Don’t forget, Payton never agreed to work with Paton. That isn’t his general manager. When the Broncos struggle, guess who is getting thrown under the bus?
My advice to George Paton. Watch your back. Don’t be surprised if you get the next knife in your back. Payton is clearly going to be unhinged after his TV stint with Fox. If Denver misses the playoffs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they hire a new general manager.
For the record, I don’t think Paton has done a bad job. The Patrick Surtain pick looks pretty good…
