Manchester United look like they’ll be selling one of their star players. The English international, Jesse Lingard, could be making his way out this season.
The 27-year-olds contract is set to expire next year. Man U could go for a contract extension, but it is unlikely.
He hasn’t started a game since Man U’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal on New Year’s Day. He would come off the bench but moved off the starting XI list. Lingard did help on the last day of Champions League though. Coming off the bench he was able to score against Leicester City and help Man U qualify for Champions League next year.
There is no immediate push to get him out, but getting him off the payroll would be ideal. His £100,000 a week salary is a big financial crutch for the club. Especially when they are trying to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and possibly Aston Villa’s captain Jack Grealish.
There are a few teams interested in Lingard. There is potential with Roma, Borussia Monchengladbach and possibly Newcastle.
Lingard wants to prove his worth during Europa League to his potential signers. For Man U’s hope, he’ll get the chance to do so. This would open the window to signing new players and gearing up for the next season that is just around the corner.
