Sean McVay: Todd Gurley Will Remain ‘Focal Point Of Our Offense’

What the hell was going on with Todd Gurley at the end of the season? It appears that nobody really had an answer. Rams head coach, Sean McVay wasn’t even giving us straight anwers. All of a sudden, CJ Anderson was on equal footing and even out carrying Gurley at the end of the season. Is there reason to worry about Gurley’s workload in 2019? Maybe not.

Sean McVay made an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show. McVay claims that Gurley will resume a heavy workload:

You can expect Todd to be a focal point of our offense going forward,” McVay told Eisen. “He’s in a good place, he’s feeling good and will continue to be a central piece of our offense and I don’t see that changing.”

The truth is that McVay needs Gurley to be that guy. If he’s not, this offense is screwed. If you have a pair of working eyeballs, then you already know that Jared Goff sucks. McVay has taken Goff to levels that shouldn’t be possible. He’s tapped out every single ounce of talent that Goff has and it’s not much. Without Gurley at A form, this team will not win the division, let alone make another trip to the Super Bowl.

Through his first four seasons, Gurley has handled 1,042 carries in the regular season alone. That’s a ton. The Rams maybe should think about a secondary ball carrier, however. John Kelly and Malcolm Brown are the current backups. CJ Anderson signed with Detroit this offseason. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to draft another one. Make sure Gurley doesn’t have more than 20 touches in non-important games. It would be the best way to keep him fresh.

How do fantasy football owners handle this? Is Gurley the hands down number one back that he was a year ago? Have Ezekiel Elliott, Saquon Barkley, and others caught him. I have my first fantasy draft in two weeks and I still don’t know what to do with Todd Gurley.
