Scott Mayfield LOVES Playing For The Islanders
Scott Mayfield is enjoying a mini (with a big emphasis on the word mini) breakout season for the Islanders in 2022-23. The Islanders defensemen has 12 points in 44 games, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but should break his career high mark of 19 points by the end of the season. Mayfield’s ice time is at a career high 20:36 per game and has spent a lot of time on that second pairing with Alexander Romanov.
Mayfield, 30, has spent his entire nine year career with the Islanders. He’s also scheduled to hit unrestricted free agency this upcoming offseason. Mayfield grew up in St. Louis and played his collegiate hockey in Denver. However, Mayfield considers Long Island home and made it clear he does not want to leave. Mayfield loves playing for the Islanders and hopes the franchise loves him back enough to keep him for the long haul.
“I love it here. My wife loves it here. We’ve kind of set up, we have a house now,” Mayfield told The Post ahead of Saturday’s match against the Canadiens. “We have friends outside of hockey. We love the community. We love what we’re able to do. We have season tIckets that we’re able to have military members at games. So we’ve definitely ingrained ourselves in the community.
“I love the guys in the room, I love the ownership, I love the front office, coaching staff, they coach the way I like. It’s an ideal situation. We like it there a lot.”
Mayfield will likely receive a raise from his $1.45 million AAV that he’s currently playing on. Extending Mayfield likely won’t cost an arm and a leg to do so but you can never truly know what Lou Lamoriello is thinking. Bagdonas loves Lou!
