Commanders are looking to end the QB dilemma in 2023 with Howell

The Washington Commanders are expecting to have Sam Howell start in 2023 after an impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys on January 8th, according to a report from theScore.

In his win against the Cowboys, Howell had one interception and one touchdown with 169 yards passing while maintaining almost a 60% completion percentage. Howell looked cool under pressure while facing the stingy Cowboys defense including completing a 52-yard completion to standout wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

The former North Carolina Tar-Heel was selected as the 144th pick in the 2022 NFL draft with being the sixth QB taken off the board. Howell finished with 92 touchdowns and only 23 interceptions in his promising college career. He received the Patterson Medal in 2022, which is the oldest and most prestigious award given to a UNC athlete each year. The award as been dated back to 1924.

In the past few years, the Washington Commanders haven’t quite figure out what signing a good quarterback can really do for them. Including signing: Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke, Case Keenum, Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and more. These QB’s haven’t really turned back the clock for the Commanders in recent years, leading them to mediocrity. Sam Howell will hopefully ignite this Commanders team to a playoff birth once again, as they have been on the border looking in on the other teams playing in the postseason.

With the offseason starting for the Commanders, they have many decisions and explanations to give out for the limited fan base that they have as of right now. Why would you start Wentz with postseason in sight? When are we going to Ron Rivera? Is he clueless? What are we going to do to build around Howell? Is he our QB of the future? These are all questions the Commanders limited community need to ask themselves to hopefully get a lick at the playoffs in the future.
