Sage Surratt 2021 NFL Draft Profile

We have two players with the last name Surratt entering the 2021 NFL Draft. I’m going to be examining Sage Surratt, the Wake Forest wide receiver next in our profile series. I’m just going to warn everyone now, I won’t have very many kind words for this one. Here is your Sage Surratt 2021 NFL Draft profile!

We need to start with this. If players want to opt out, that’s on them. I will not degrade them for that decision. Then again, when it comes to certain players, let’s just call a spade a spade. Sage Surratt, who are you? You are not Ja’Marr Chase. You’re not even good enough to be his lunch lady at the cafeteria. The idea that Surratt thought he had nothing to prove is lunacy.

Surratt had a pretty decent 2019 season picking up 66 receptions for 1,011 yards, and 11 touchdowns. That was with Jamie Newman throwing him the football. It was also good enough for a first team ACC honors. The problem is none of his game is translatable to the NFL.

Look, the same people that got fooled by JJ Arcega-Whiteside are the same ones that are going to get fooled here. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. There were a lot of draft people that thought very highly of Arcega-Whiteside. I was not one of them calling him a guaranteed bust before the draft. Surratt is just another version of this style of player.

Surratt couldn’t separate from a planet. That shit isn’t going to fly in the NFL. He doesn’t just lack explosion… there was none, to begin with. I wrote extensively about Surratt during the Senior Bowl including videos of just how terrible he is in that aspect. If he can’t get an inch of separation in college, he’s going to suck in the pros.

There’s not a ton to say here. Surratt isn’t just slow. His first step burst is laughable. Whatever you picture when watching a turtle walk on land, Surratt is slower and less twitchy than that. Worse yet, there’s zero route running ability here. Look, it’s one thing to be slow. It’s another thing to be slow in terms of short area quickess. It’s ANOTHER thing to have zero route tree.

Surratt is very much just a basketball player looking for the rebound. That’s fine if he’s a zone beating 6-foot-5 tight end looking to carve a niche. Surratt is 6-foot-2, 209, and will face a lot of corners the same size or bigger than him in the NFL. It’s not happening bro.

There’s nothing else to say here. Sage Surratt just flat out sucks. Forget about making the top wide receiver rankings. I wouldn’t draft him period.
