Is Russell Wilson on a one-year audition with Sean Payton?

By this point, it’s no secret that the Denver Broncos got absolutely fleeced by the Seattle Seahawks in the Russell Wilson trade last offseason. He was brought in to be the savior in Denver, but he turned out to be the exact opposite. I’m not sure that the Broncos’ job was desirable, but it must’ve been to Sean Payton as he facilitated a trade there last month.

You would think that the pairing of Payton and Wilson would be one that could last years to come, given the team finds success. But according to Matthew Berry, this might be a short-lived relationship.

In his article on the 23 most interesting things he heard while at the NFL Combine, one of the talking points was that Wilson could be on a shorter leash than we all thought.

Said one source “I don’t think [Sean] Payton likes Russ. He’s got one year to prove himself or Payton will move on.” This source pointed out that Payton has said multiple times in public, on the record, how Russell keeps “bothering Drew Brees,” Berry wrote.

This whole situation makes no sense to me. I don’t get why Payton would want this job. I don’t get why Denver would move picks for a coach that gave up on his last team once his star quarterback left. Why would Russell Wilson constantly pester Brees?

From top to bottom, this organization is a dumpster fire, no other way to put it. If the Broncos don’t at least make a push for a wildcard spot, it should be see you later for Wilson in Denver. No more excuses.
