The summer transfer window has entered its final month for the major European leagues, which means the biggest clubs are looking to bolster their squads prior to the new season.
Paris Saint-Germain is a team that has made its name known during this window, bolstering its already impressive attack of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Mauro Icardi with the monumental addition of Lionel Messi, who had previously made clear his desire to part ways with FC Barcelona.
PSG’s hunger to build a super squad is by no means diminished, however, as it has been reported that PSG are looking toward none other than Cristiano Ronaldo to replace Mbappe. 22-year-old Mbappe has been heavily linked to a move to Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid, although PSG does not have plans to transfer Mbappe this summer. His deal, however, runs only through next season, and could see him leave on a free transfer. And while he will not be an option this summer, PSG sees Ronaldo as the player who can come in and fill the Frenchman’s void, especially as his own contract also ends in the summer of 2022.
It does beg the question as to whether or not Icardi will remain a part of the team next summer, with a potential move back to Serie A with Juventus allowing him to link up with countryman Paulo Dybala.
Alongside Messi, the Parisians have already signed Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Sergio Ramos this summer. While that makes up an incredible transfer season, Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the top brass at the Parc des Princes seem to still be dreaming of new names they can bring into the club in the future.
