Lionel Messi Will Be Leaving Barcelona
Lionel Messi will be leaving Barcelona, as first reported by Fabrizio Romano. The Argentine has been with the club since he was 13 and although a deal was agreed upon between Barca and Messi, it was unable to be finalized because of La Liga financial regulations.
An official statement was released by FC Barcelona detailing why the deal collapsed:
“Despite having reached an agreement between Barça and Leo Messi and with the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, it will not be possible to formalize due to economic and structural obstacles (Spanish LaLiga regulations).”

The club added that they were saddened by Messi’s departure and thanked the Argentine talisman for his many years of service with the club:
“FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”

For the first time in my life, Lionel Messi will not be suiting up for the Catalan club he has called home for nearly two decades. It is certainly a shocking day in the world of football, especially after earlier reports indicated a deal was going to be finalized before the start of the season. For now, we will patiently wait and see where the 34-year-old superstar ends up. Maybe it’s in Paris, or London, or Manchester, and who knows, he even seemed to like Miami quite a bit.
