Ronaldo claims Saudi League is better than MLS

Cristiano Ronaldo has boldly claimed that the Saudi Pro League is better than the MLS.

Following Al-Nassr’s 5-0 defeat to Celta Vigo, the Portuguese star defended the Saudi league, arguing that the league is better than the MLS. He also claimed that he will never move to the MLS and is entirely focused on his time with Al-Nassr and the Saudi Pro League.

“The Saudi league is better than MLS,” Ronaldo said when asked about a potential move to the MLS.

The Saudi Pro League has improved substantially in quality since Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr last January. Superstars like Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté headline the players moving to Saudi Arabia this summer.

It has not been just aging superstars who have joined Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia either. Rúben Neves, Sergej Milinković-Savić and Jota are players who have made the move to Saudi Arabia and still have their best years ahead of them.

Ronaldo believes that more players will follow and that the league will continue to improve in quality as well.

“I opened the way to Saudi league… and now all the players are coming here,” he said.

The Saudi league has been adding firepower this summer and is definitely on the rise. However, to say the league is better than the MLS is bold, to say the least.

The MLS has a far better academy system and has become a successful selling league in the last few years. The league has successfully combined this with its ability to attract aging stars to turn it into a rapidly developing league that is gaining an increasing level of global respect with each passing year.

While Saudi Arabia has used its vast financial resources to attract high-profile signings, the reality is that the MLS is a better league across the board, and the Saudi Pro League has some serious ground to make up.

Ronaldo’s statement comes a day after Lionel Messi was officially presented as a new Inter Miami player. His statements continue to stoke the fire in the Messi-Ronaldo debate which has dominated soccer fandom for years now.

Is Ronaldo right that the Saudi Pro League is now better than the MLS? Or is he merely trying to promote the league and take away from Messi’s move to Inter Miami?

No matter what you think, it is going to be exciting to see both Ronaldo and Messi’s twilight years compare to the rest of their careers.
