The Broncos are officially moving on from Russell Wilson. Denver has benched Wilson in favor of Jarrett Stidham for the remainder of the 2023-24 NFL Season. Now that Wilson is done with the Broncos, now is a perfect time to revisit that infamous trade.
We already know that Seattle won this trade. Still, it’s probably a good idea to remind everyone just how badly Seattle won this deal.
The haul that Seattle came away with here is staggering.
The crazy part is Seattle actually could have turned this into a better haul. They used their own second round pick that year on Zach Charbonnet when they already had Kenneth Walker. They should have taken Jalen Carter, which really would have made this trade look ugly. Boye Mafe was also a bit of a reach. Imagine if they actually managed their picks better. Instead of highway robbery, it could have been the worst trade in NFL history.
What a disaster for Denver. Just so many additional layers that can be talked about. Like how Geno Smith was somehow the better player and Denver gift-wrapped 800 picks their way to get Seattle back in the playoff mix. This trade may have even saved Pete Carroll’s job. It was the best decision Seattle could have possibly made. Hell, Drew Lock might be the better player right now.
