DK Metcalf Never Thought Russell Wilson Would Leave Seattle

The Russell Wilson trade from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos send a jolt of excitement throughout all of Broncos country and brought sadness to the 12th Man in Seattle. Apparently, that wave of sadness also was felt inside the Seahawks organization, especially with DK Metcalf.

Receiver DK Metcalf was on a recent episode of KG Certified and explained to host Kevin Garnett that he first heard of the trade from someone in Seattle’s front office that Wilson could be traded while DK was at a photoshoot. Roughly an hour after that, news broke of the aforementioned trade.

Full quote via PFT via nbcsports.com:

“I was just in shock because I didn’t think it was going to happen,” Metcalf said. “I was very shocked because I never thought he was going to leave Seattle.”

It would appear the franchise is turning to a new page in their history books, as the Seahawks also released long-time Linebacker Bobby Wagner the same day.

“So my mind is like, Russ [is] gone. What do I do? Later that night, Bobby gets cut,” Metcalf said. “And me and Bobby were [close] — like that was my guy. And when he left, that really hurt. Because we would work out every Tuesday. I would go over to his crib, we would play pool. That was my big brother. And he’s gone now. So I know he taught me a lot and I’m going to take that going into the next season and the rest of my years in the NFL. But he was like a real big brother to me while I was in the league.”

“I think it’s time for me to step up and be a leader,” Metcalf said. “It’s my time in Seattle now. That’s the way I look at it.”

It’s safe to say that times will be tough going forward for DK Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks. Trying to find someone to step up and replace Russell Wilson in terms of a leader will be no easy feat. But I do think it is a promising sign that a 24-year-old receiver still fresh in the league is outwardly saying he is willing and able to step up. A positive sign for Seahawks fans.
