Remember When I Said The Raiders Drafted The Wrong Byron Young? The Results Are Hilarious

The Las Vegas Raiders selected Byron Young with the 70th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The only problem is the Raiders picked the wrong Byron Young. I even said as much after giving the Raiders an F for their terrible draft class.

“It was a classic Raiders draft. The poo poo factory of sadness over and over again. It was classic Raiders and you can’t make up the things they do at this point. Picking the wrong Byron Young was just the cherry on top.”

One year later, the aftermath of that decision is predictably hilarious.

The Raiders picked Byron Young the defensive lineman from Alabama. He finished his rookie season with a whooping four tackles while only being activated for six games.

The Rams picked Byron Young, the Tennessee pass rusher, with the 77th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The guy the Rams got finished his rookie season with 42 solo tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and 19 quarterback hits. The guy the Rams got turned into the best pass rusher on the team within the blink of an eye.

Except none of this is really hindsight. I ranked Byron Young (the guy the Rams got) as better than Tyree Wilson. The proof is right here. The Raiders picked Wilson in the top ten and passed on Jalen Carter. Only to watch him notch 3.5 sacks.

You want to know why Dave Ziegler got fired? How much more evidence do you need to see? Taking the wrong Byron Young was egregious at the time and it predicably looks hilarious.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the Raiders don’t need Trey. My opinion isn’t valuable to them. Instead, they would rather hire Tom Telesco. The same guy that got fired the day after the Chargers lost 63-21 and passed on Zay Flowers for Quentin Johnston in the draft. I’m quite sure he’s better than me.
