Legendary running back Marshawn Lynch spent the 2016 season retired but there is a chance we haven’t seen the last of the Beast Mode. Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that the Raiders are attempting to acquire Lynch.

Seattle still owns Lynch’s rights as he is currently on the reserved-retired list. If Lynch did come out of retirement, he would be scheduled to make $9 million in 2017 and $7 million in 2018 with a $3 million roster bonus. If Oakland wants to acquire Lynch, they will likely have to offer some kind of draft pick compensation to Seattle as they likely won’t just let him walk.

Mike Florio of PFT reports there is a real chance this could happen.

It could really happen,” one source familiar with the situation said. One source with knowledge of the situation told Mike Florio of PFT there is a “very good chance” that Lynch will return to football.

After losing Latavius Murray via free agency to the Vikings, Oakland is in need for a running back. Lynch appears to be the perfect candidate as he originates from the Oakland area. Given the fact that the Raiders are working on extensions for Derek Carr and Khalil Mack, it may not be feasible that the Raiders want to pay Lynch $9 million considering he didn’t even play in 2016. Currently, the Raiders will have to lean on Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington at tailback.
