It’s that time of year! Super Bowl LIX is right around the corner and with the 2024-25 NFL Playoffs set to open, now seems like a perfect time to set the stage. Can I interest you in a taste of some power rankings right before the most entertaining time of year kicks off?
Which teams have the best chance to make the Super Bowl this year? Don’t wait… you can get in on the action! Check out all of the Super Bowl odds right here!
Before I begin, make sure to comment. Are you fading these picks? Are you more likely to place a wager after reading the power rankings? Let your voice be heard!
14: Pittsburgh Steelers
Betting on the Steelers to win the Super Bowl feels like flushing money down the toilet. Pittsburgh enters the playoffs on a four game losing streak… largely because Russell Wilson has done his best impression of a 7th-inning reliever that was asked to pitch too many innings. Justin Fields gives this team the best chance to win but that’s a story for another day.
The Steelers are currently +9000 on DraftKings, which is the longest odds of any team to win it.
When people tell you who they are, believe them. Mike Tomlin has proven he’s good at getting his team to a winning record. He also hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016 and prime Ben Roethlisberger isn’t walking through those doors anymore.
We’ll leave it at that. Sorry, Steelers fans but this isn’t your year.
13: Washington Commanders
The Commanders feel like the Texans from a year ago. Maybe they can win a round. It feels unlikely they can advance further and make a serious run. Washington is building something but you’re asking a lot for a rookie quarterback to carry you to a championship in year one. This is a team that just had the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Let’s revisit this conversation a year or two from now.
Washington is +4500 on DraftKings to win it.
12: Houston Texans
Progression isn’t always linear. The Houston Texans are the epitome of that. CJ Stroud is in a sophomore slump and Bobby Slowik hasn’t diversified his play-calling portfolio in the second year of this offense. It’s pretty obvious teams have figured them out and they’ve suffered a number of key injuries that include the likes of Stefon Diggs / Tank Dell. It sure feels like Houston needs one more strong offseason, which hopefully includes beefing up a struggling offensive line.
Houston is +8000 to win it, which is the second longest shot of the field. I’d wait until next year if you want to take a stab at the Texans winning their first ever Super Bowl.
11: Denver Broncos
It’s amazing Denver made it this far. They’re basically playing with half of a team considering they’re still eating a boatload of dead money from Russell Wilson. Sean Payton deserves his flowers for the coaching job he’s done. No question about that. It just feels like an impossible ask for this Broncos team to win it, especially in Bo Nix’s rookie season.
Denver is +6500 but you’re much betting them down the road to win it after the Wilson dead money is off the books and they can add auxiliary pieces to the roster.
10: Los Angeles Rams
Sean McVay is a wonderful head coach and this team has really done a nice job drafting along the defensive line. To even make the playoffs in the first year post-Aaron Donald is a huge accomplishment. Still, this team feels like a shell of the version that won the Super Bowl in 2022 and Matthew Stafford is 36 now. The secondary is also totally brutal and they haven’t been able to cover anybody all year.
The Rams are +4500 and tied for the longest odds to win it by an NFC team along with Washington.
9: Green Bay Packers
The Packers can beat any team on any given week but they feel way too inconsistent to do it for multiple weeks in a row. It starts with the quarterback. Did you know Jordan Love has seven games this year where he failed to hit 60% completion mark? That’s in 15 starts…
Love just isn’t accurate enough for me to bet on rolling off a multiple-game heater to win it. If you feel differently, the Packers are +2000 to win it.
8: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bet on the NFC South at your own peril! The Bucs won 10 games this year but lost both games to Atlanta during the regular season. Baker Mayfield has been on fire and Bucky Irving (shout out to me for having the call of the year) have been awesome stories but I’m not sure the roster is good enough to win it.
Tampa gives up 22.6 points per game (third worst among playoff teams) and 341.8 yards per game (second worst among playoff teams). Not exactly ideal for a team with a defensive head coach.
Tampa is +2500 to win it if you’re feeling courageous enough to ride with Baker and the Bucs.
7: Los Angeles Chargers
This to me feels like the line of demarcation. The top seven teams to me feel like they all have a realistic shot to win it if things go their way. LA is number one in the NFL in points allowed per game. Jesse Minter is a future head coach in this league and has done a wonderful job running that defense all year.
Justin Herbert is a real franchise quarterback and they can run the ball thanks to a JK Dobbins resurgence. Ladd McConkey is a breakout star as a rookie (to no surprise by the VSM draft team). If Jim Harbaugh went to a Super Bowl with Colin Kaepernick, certainly he can win one with Herbert.
The Chargers are +2800 to win it all.
6: Baltimore Ravens
Betting on Rudy Gobert, I mean Lamar Jackson, to win in the playoffs feels like a fool’s errand. However, things just might be different this year with Derrick Henry in the backfield. Nobody wants to tackle that guy and this team is incredibly difficult to beat when they play from in front.
Baltimore is +600 to win the Super Bowl this year.
5: Minnesota Vikings
Don’t scoff at the Vikings. This team is legit. You don’t win 14 games in the NFC North by accident. This offense has been explosive all year and the trio of pass rushers – Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel, and Dallas Turner are about as good as it gets in order to protect a lead.
Minnesota is +1600 to win the last game of the season.
4: Detroit Lions
Detroit has been a wagon all season. That’s not an accident. The offensive line is dominant, the team plays with an edge under Dan Campbell, and Jahmyr Gibbs has been a freight train out of the backfield. They would have been higher on the list but they’re the most injured team of anybody entering the dance. This could be the Lions’ year but they really need Aidan Hutchinson back in the worst way. They’re a different animal when he’s out there.
The Lions are the odds on favorite at +280
3: Philadelphia Eagles
This Eagles team feels really similar to the one that was an eyelash from winning the Super Bowl two years ago. The only difference is this time they have Saquon Barkley on their side. Oh, and Vic Fangio who has done a great job of being a lion tamer to guys like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. The way they play defense and run the ball, Philly is a great bet to take a shot on.
The Eagles are +700 to end the season on top.
2: Kansas City Chiefs
I don’t blame you if you just want to turn the card in for the Chiefs. This team just finds ways to win. Would it surprise anybody if they found a way to three-peat? They’re incredible on third down and are coming off a 15 win season. Having Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes on your side should make any bettor feel confident.
KC is +350 to win it again.
1: Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen is just too good to not win one at some point. The guy is just a total cyborg and should be the runaway MVP winner. Nobody carries their team quite like the former Wyoming product.
The defense isn’t always reliable but you’re never out of a game with Allen. The guy is totally unstoppable and at some point, it just has to be his year. This year could very well be that year. They’re also healthy, which hasn’t been the case in previous postseason runs.
The Bills are +650 to win Super Bowl LIX and top the list for the power rankings.
