In case you missed it, after entering the transfer portal, Zachariah Branch has decided to commit to Georgia to play for the Dawgs in 2025. The former USC wide receiver had interest from other schools but it should made clear he made a very smart call declaring his intention to play for the Dawgs.
Fun fact!
Did you know Georgia led FBS with the most drops as a team (31)? Did you also know that they were also the only team in the SEC to have three receivers with five or more drops?
Georgia needs Branch as much as he needs them but it’s worth noting that eye test wise, he’s going to make a huge difference.
As of right now, Branch has been a lot more sizzle than steak. However, you could say the exact same thing about the USC program under Lincoln Riley. I’d argue the biggest problem at USC is that the team lacks physical toughness. That’s not a problem at Georgia and Branch’s skillset should pop off the screen with that team.
Not to mention the fact that it will be good to see Branch compete at the SEC level. He’s going to look like if Arian Smith was juiced up on roids. Branch has crazy talent and it will likely look like if you inserted Jaylen Waddle onto Georgia. It’s going to work. It’s a matter of just how successful he is.
Coming out of high school, Branch was the number one wide receiver recruit in the country. The former Bishop Gorman product has insane speed and is a total playmaker in the open field. I’d imagine they may ask him to return kicks with the Dawgs too. I say this as carefully as possible but he has Tyreek Hill type of upside.
Last season, Branch had 47 receptions for 503 yards and one touchdown. You’re going to see those numbers explode as the number one in Georgia. Plus the Dawgs also brought in Noah Thomas as the number two. Yes, Georgia is a pro style system but you can’t undersell the toughness factor. USC had none and couldn’t get the passing game going. Georgia is much more of a pro style system that will create a balanced attack where teams can’t take Branch out of the game.
With Georgia, I expect Branch to become the day one draft pick he’s been hyped up to be.
