Phoenix Suns 2020 Preview

Phoenix Suns
Make sure you don’t double team Devin Booker. He will cry about it. Read your Phoenix Suns NBA Preview! (Joe Camporeale/USA TODAY Sports)

What can we say about the Phoenix Suns? Well, they are the perpetual loser of the NBA. It’s been 9 years since the Suns found their way in the postseason which is the 2nd longest drought in the NBA. Sadly, a quick turnaround doesn’t really seem feasible. It’s Devin Booker and a bunch of parts. Let’s take a look at what the Phoenix Suns could bring to the table as the 2019-2020 NBA season opens up.

Key Additions: Aron Baynes, Cheick Diallo, Ty Jerome, Cameron Johnson, Frank Kaminsky, Ricky Rubio, Dario Saric

The Suns are going to Suns. The Suns put together what was maybe the worst offseason of any team. They gave Ricky Rubio $51 million. YUCK! They gave up a first round pick for Dario Saric who’s about to be a restricted free agent. YUCK. The Suns had the worst draft of any team. Overdrafting Cam Johnson and Ty Jerome who will be out of the league in 3 years. Jerome can’t even jump. This was awful.

Key Departures: Dragan Bender?

The Suns didn’t really lose anything this offseason. The Suns didn’t really have anything to lose either. Instead it was an offseason filled with busts walking out the door. Josh Jackson? Take a lap… see ya. Dragan Bender? Good hell. Let’s keep it moving.

Potential Lineup: Ricky Rubio, Devin Booker, Kelly Oubre, Dario Saric, DeAndre Ayton

The good news here is the Suns have a point guard. Not much of a scorer but he can distribute and play defense. Devin Booker is their star. Just make sure you don’t double him. He will most likely cry about it. DeAndre Ayton needs to take another leap. Ayton averaged 16.3 points per game while converting 58.5 percent from the floor. Ayton’s defense improved too as the year went along. Booker and Ayton need to form that Shaq and Kobe connection if this team has any chance in the future.

IN the present, this team stinks. I don’t think there’s any way around it. They should have a top 5 pick again for what seems like the 100th year in a row. I can’t see this team getting higher than the 11th seed in the West. That’s probably the ceiling.
