Phillies On Verge Of Hiring Dave Dombrowski
The Philadelphia Phillies have been searching for a new president of baseball operations. After firing Matt Klentak, Philadelphia searched long and hard for their new leader. Look no further than former Marlins, Tigers, and Red Sox gm Dave Dombrowski.
Jayson Stark of The Athletic has reported that the Phillies are on the verge of hiring Dombrowski to fill the void in the front office. John Middleton has decided that Dombrowski is the guy to lead the Phillies into the future.
Dombrowski’s reputation has been earned at this point. He’s aggressive to a fault but is a known winner. The 2018 Boston Red Sox are arguably the best team that has ever been assembled. We haven’t seen Dombrowski since the Red Sox fired him in 2019.
Dombrowski was part of the music city baseball group looking to bring a team to Nashville. Obviously, the Phillies job apparently was too good to pass on and will leave that side project. Dave Stewart and others are still part of that group.
Dombrowski is who he is. Get ready Philadelphia because the Dombrowski scouting report has been defined. He will gut your entire farm system to try to win a championship. He’s not afraid to trade any of his young players. He also does not care about a bullpen.
Philadelphia has some tough decisions to make this offseason. Didi Gregorius and JT Realmuto are free agents. The Phillies are also hamstrung with big contracts. The Bryce Harper deal is hanging over the franchise like a black cloud.
Time will tell if Dombrowski was a good hire. Get ready for the trades because Dombrowski is going to make his stamp on the organization right away.
