The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2017. They managed to win a first round playoff game this past year. Now the Eagles will hopefully get their quarterback back. They haven’t had Carson Wentz for any of those meetings. Howie Roseman is among the best general managers in any sport. Let’s take a look inside the war room. What can we expect from the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2019 NFL Draft?
First Round (Pick 25) – I think the Eagles need to address the linebacker spot. The Eagles lost Jordan Hicks in free agency and there is a glaring hole at inside linebacker. Devin Bush has to be on the radar. It’s a bad linebacker class and there’s really on two guys that are considered good prospects. Bush is a rangy safety with plus speed and tackling ability. Can’t just roll out Nigel Bradham and nobodies out there. That won’t go over well. Bush is a good pick here.
Second Round (Pick 53) – This is the Lamar Jackson pick. That fox Howie steals a draft pick for a quarterback that can’t throw. I would think they will keep throwing picks on defense. The offense is complete right now. Three receivers, two tight ends, potentially the best offensive line are all in place. Corner could be one. Players in this range include Amani Oruwariye, Trayvon Mullen, JoeJuan Williams, and Julian Love. I think you can really build on what is already a really deep unit. Ronald Darby, Avonte Maddox, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Sidney Jones, and Rasul Douglas has potential. Add one more guy in and you can afford for injuries.
Second Round (Pick 57) – The Eagles lost Timmy Jernigan and replaced him with Malik Jackson. However, the Eagles could still use a rotational option here. Terry Beckner could be a guy the Eagles target. Beckner is a guy who had a much better 2017 season compared to 2018 at Missouri but he has some talent. 3.5 sacks from the interior and can play the run. Others to consider include Khalen Saunders, Kevin Givens, Demarcus Christmas, and Renell Wren.
Other than that, the Eagles really only need depth offensive lineman and another running back. This team is loaded and if Carson Wentz is healthy, they are a legit Super Bowl contender again.
