We got a bombshell dropped on us today, as it is being reported that the Seattle Seahawks are expected to be moving on from long-time head coach Pete Carroll. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the news Wednesday.
Schefter notes that Carroll could remain with the Seahawks, but in a front-office or advisory role. Carroll has been with the Seahawks for 14 years.
Seattle Seahawks owner Jody Allen released a statement shortly after the news broke.
“After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor. Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community. His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue as an integral part of our organization moving forward. Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.”
While Black Monday normally stretches through the week and we have seen the expected names get fired, I can say that Seattle moving on from Pete Carroll was not something any of us expected. Carroll, 72, now moves into an advisor role within the organization where he will likely continue to do great things for the Seahawks.
For now, Seattle becomes one of the better coaching destinations for this hiring cycle, as this roster has heaps of talent. This team could be one of the first to hire a new coach as they will be a top landing spot in 2024.
