After the bombshell news that Pete Carroll is out in Seattle, it immediately gets your mind wandering on who could replace arguably the best coach in Seahawks history.
This should be a fairly hot job to seek, as this roster is built to compete right away. However, there is already a perfect fit to replace Carroll, and that is Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who was Seattle’s defensive coordinator from 2009-2010 and again from 2013-2014.
The Seahawks are expected to have interest in Quinn, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
The fit would be seamless. Carroll was already a defensive-minded guy who is high-energy and could rally a team together. You’re essentially replacing Carroll with a younger version of himself in Dan Quinn.
Quinn, 53, has done a tremendous job in Dallas, as they have been among the better defensive units in the NFL since he took over the job back in 2021. This would leave a massive vacancy in Dallas, but would provide Quinn with another crack at being a head coach after his first stint with the Atlanta Falcons.
Quinn was the defensive coordinator during the stretch in Seattle where they had the Legion of Boom, and it appears they are trying to rebuild a unit similar to that great team. This is a young defensive Quinn would be taking over with a lot of talented players at all three levels, guys who he could mold into the style of players he wants.
He would have to figure something out at quarterback going forward after Geno Smith. But with a good draft and some key free agent signings, this could be a contending team in 2024 with Quinn at the helm.
