The Patriots Need Bill O’Brien More Than He Needs Them
It remains to be seen where Bill O’Brien will be coaching in 2023. The only thing that is clear is the fact that the Patriots need him way more than he needs them. The Patriots completed their interview with the Alabama offensive coordinator today and I can’t help but think a certain way. The Patriots need O’Brien way more than he needs them.
NBC Sports Boston’s Mike Felger had a fantastic segment on his show. It’s so good that I had to write a post including it.
O’Brien, 53, has spent the past two seasons as the OC at University of Alabama under Nick Saban. We know how this thing sort of goes. Saban is already basically playing football chess after he sent Pete Golding to Ole Miss. Key word on the word sent because that’s exactly what happened. I would anticipate O’Brien signing a deal with the Patriots in the near future. A lot of it has to do with Saban wanting to send him away at the same time.
Everything that Felger said in the video is accurate, which is why it should be mentioned. Even if O’Brien departs Alabama, is this really the move? Is Bill Belichick going to be up your ass the whole time? Is Matt Patricia going to be micro managing everything? Is Joe Judge involved? This whole Patriots thing is a mess I’m not sure I’d want to be part of. It’s also been reported that O’Brien isn’t exactly thrilled about what the Patriots are offering.
Great video Felger. It’s 100 percent true too. Either way, Bill Belichick needs to change or be let go. It’s trending towards the latter.
