O’Brien to take over as offensive play caller for the New England Patriots

As Patriots offensive play-calling woes continue, they have decided to bring in former NFL head coach Bill O’Brien to resolve this issue, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

O’Brien spent his last two years as the play-caller for the Alabama Crimson Tide along-side Nick Saban. But with complaints on the offensive play calling, the Patriots finally decided to add O’Brien to their coaching tandem.

O’Brien has had a lengthy coaching experience all across football. He has coached since 1993 when he was a coach for the tight ends at Brown University. He later went on to be a inside linebackers coach at Brown, a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech, and even a running backs coach at Maryland. Safe to say, if you want experience calling plays, O’Brien is your guy.

The Patriots offenses weren’t cruising along as they have been in previous years in 2022. They ranked 17th in points, 20th in passing yards, 21st in pass attempts, and 17th in touchdowns. Safe to say, they weren’t excited to throw the ball and barely threw the ball in general this year. Their offense went no where and starting QB Mac Jones wasn’t happy about it. Jones went on to yell on the sidelines in frustration of Matt Patricia‘s play calling. This all happened during a 24-10 loss on Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills with the pro bowl QB screaming “Throw the F*cking ball” and “F*ckin run game sucks.”

Hopefully, with the reunion between O’Brien and Jones, the two Crimson Tide natives can turn the Patriots offense around in O’Brien’s second stint with them.

Overall, in my opinion, this hire for the Patriots is a good one because of the much needed assistance on the offense.
