Sebastian Vollmer has been released by the New England Patriots today. Tom Pelissero of USA Today has first reported the news after Vollmer didn’t play for the Patriots at all in 2016.
Veteran OT Sebastian Vollmer's contract tolled because he spent all last season on PUP. But the #Patriots plan to release him, source said.

Retirement seems like it could be a serious option for Vollmer who has had serious hip issues in recent years. Vollmer, 33, is one of the greatest success stories of players of European heritage as he is originally from Germany. The former 2nd round pick from the University of Houston in 2009 was a dominating force in the Pats offensive lineup until last season.
In 2015 Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 42nd best offensive tackle in the NFL. He joins a number of free agent tackles including Ricky Wagner, Russell Okung, Andrew Whitworth, etc.
