Off The Ice
Off The Ice

Patrick Laine made his debut as a Columbus Blue Jacket. This week’s edition of Off The Ice is going to be very short. Lots of games were canceled because of COVID-19 outbreaks. The Stanley Cup will be awarded to the franchise that can put a whole functioning team on the ice.

Real Important things

The Carolina Hurricanes goalie, Petr Mrazek suffered a thumb injury on Saturday. I don’t know what it is with forwards injuring their own goalies this season, but it needs to stop.

He had surgery on Wednesday and the estimated recovery time is still unknown. Carolina has a lot of reliance on their goalies this season so this isn’t going to be easy to bounce back from.

Washington Capitals goalie, Henrik Lundqvist took to social media on Wednesday to check in with his fans.

“What’s up, guys? Checking in. I’m in snowy New York City. It’s been a month today since the surgery, and I feel good. Good energy, moving around. Hope you guys are well.”

Lundqvist had open-heart surgery to replace a valve in early January.

Go Badgers? Go Bolts?

In 2010, Ryan Macdonough left the University of Wisconsin to play for the New York Rangers. At the time, he was just 18 credits short of finishing his degree in finance. Well, he’s joining the rest of us in online learning this semester. He’s re-enrolled at the Unversity of Wisconsin to finish his degree.

“I figured it’s workable. It’s only been a couple of weeks but it’s something that I hopefully can finish…we’ll see how it goes, but it’s been fun.”

Fun? The rest of us are dying in these online classes, Ryan, and this is FUN to you???? Fine. Can you do my math homework then?

Rapid Fire

Kirby Dach is skating and recovery is going well. Dallas Stars goalie Anton Khudobin was scratched for Sunday’s game against the Blackhawks. There was a huge schedule shuffle due to COVID cancelations. I’m hiding this in the middle so hopefully, my family won’t read this before dinner. I got into Long Island University for transfer in the fall. Dubois is set to debut with the Jets on Tuesday night. The Islanders broke their five-game losing streak on Saturday night in a 4-3 win against the Penguins.
