I have a lot of stock invested in D’Andre Swift this year so I’m sure you already know I was pissed when Swift posted a zero in Week 1 of the 2023-24 NFL Season. Dallas Goedert also posted a zero but that’s a story for another day.
Does Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni feel any remorse? Is Swift actually going to touch the football moving forward? It sounds like it but can we really trust what he’s saying after last week?
“Yeah, I think he can play both those roles, no question about it,” Sirianni said, via a transcript from the team. “He’ll be in that role sometimes where he carries the load for the game, and he’ll be in the role sometimes like he was in last game. Again, we don’t ever want to come out with him only having those many touches. That’s just kind of how the flow went in the game. We had things called for him, but sometimes the ball doesn’t go for him in a certain way. That’s just the way the defense takes it away. Now, you can always get it to him by just handing it off to him, but I see him being able to play any role that he’s in because of the type of back and the skill set that he has.”
Few things from me before we wrap this up. I hope I made this clear but I apologize if I didn’t. If you have Swift, you’re an idiot if you’re not also rostering Kenneth Gainwell. On the two teams I have Swift, I also drafted Gainwell. Rashaad Penny was the one I wasn’t really worried about. I loved Gainwell coming out of Memphis so it’s no surprise that he took the lead role to start the season.
However, Gainwell is out this week with a rib injury. Penny is back on the active roster after being a healthy scratch last week. I’m not starting Swift because at this point I need to see it. Now that I said that, he’s probably going to go off. Did I mention how lineup leagues are trash?
