One of the more diluted illusions we fans have created for ourselves. is thinking NFL players care about our fantasy football teams in any way. It would be nice if they did no doubt but, realistically, it’s in the back of the mind of pretty much every NFL player. But Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert wants to make sure we all remember that.
This isn’t the first time a player/coach has come out and talked about their lack of care for fantasy teams. Arthur Smith came out and shared a similar sentiment when Kyle Pitts owners became outraged by his lack of production.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of us. Some players may say they care about fantasy and I don’t doubt that’s true. But at the end of the day, they are going to care about winning a whole lot more. So if that means they have to take a back seat in a certain game to ensure a win, they are going to make that decision every time … if they are a good teammate, that is.
The issue of Goedert not having a single catch is a whole separate problem that needs to be addressed outside of fantasy. Nick Sirianni has already come out and hinted that Goedert needs to be more involved in the offense, and that they can’t let him have another game with zero catches.
For the sake of the Eagles offense, let’s hope that’s true. Goedert is one of the league’s better tight ends, and has been an amazing safety blanket for Jalen Hurts in his young career. Totaling zero catches is a disservice to both the Eagles and all his fantasy owners, so I guess it’s a little better that our interests align (for now).
Get over the idea that NFL players care about your fantasy team or are going to go the extra mile to make sure you get your points. They have one job–to win–or at least aid in the process of winning, not racking you up fantasy points.
