The Toronto Raptors were projected to win 46.5 games this year according to Vegas. The Raptors will exceed that number. Toronto currently sits in 2nd place in the East with a record of 42-18. With 22 games to go, the Raptors 16 wins to match their total from a year ago. The same team that won a championship… with Kawhi Leonard. Toronto is practically as good without him somehow (at least in the regular season). There is no need to even vote for this award. Nick Nurse deserves to win the 2019-2020 NBA Coach of the Year Award.
Nick Nurse is doing incredible things with Toronto. His brilliance isn’t hard to spot. Nurse changes his defensive schemes so often throughout the course of a game. I don’t think anybody changes defensive tactics more often. The Raptors have the 2nd best defensive rating in the NBA (104.9) behind just Milwaukee. Who’s the great defender in Toronto? A year ago, the Raptors had one player make the All-Defense team. That guy isn’t on the roster anymore.
Pascal Siakam keeps getting better. Doesn’t Nurse deserve some credit there? Fred VanVleet didn’t get drafted. Terence Davis is playing key minutes… undrafted. Chris Boucher has emerged… undrafted. Marc Gasol has played 18 games. Serge Ibaka and Kyle Lowry have missed time. They’re second in the East.
Who else would you even give the award to? Erik Spoelstra? Toronto is 4 games ahead of Miami and lost the best player in the league. Frank Vogel? A lot of coaches are winning games with LeBron and Anthony Davis. Name me another coach that deserves it. Just give the award to Nick Nurse now.
