NHL Power Rankings 2022-23: November Edition

The NHL is back. How great does that sound? Hockey season is in full effect and that means it’s time for some power rankings. Check out what the hockey staff have to say about the pretenders and contenders at the start of 2022-23:

Boston Leads The Way

1. Bruins (Trey: 2, Andrew: 1, and Chris: 1) Average: 1.33

“The Bruins look destined to reach the finals. They’re not even healthy right now and when McAvoy and Marchand fully return to this lineup … wow.

David Pastrnak is out of his mind right now which is what we expected during a contract year. Bruins have just looked faster and more explosive offensively while Linus Ullmark is starting to live up to the contract. Now this is a last dance story that might actually come to fruition.” – Trey Daubert

2. Golden Knights (Chris: 3, Trey: 4, Andrew: 4) Average: 3.67

“The Golden Knights are very much back. They’re playing like the team we all expected they would be after the Jack Eichel blockbuster went down last season. Speaking of which, the dude is playing like a man possessed on both ends this year. It feels like we could be seeing Vegas’ first big run since 2018.” – Chris Bagdonas

3. Carolina Hurricanes (Andrew: 2, Trey: 7, Chris: 4): Average: 4.33

4. Calgary Flames (Andrew: 3, Trey: 5, Chris: 6) Average: 5

T-5th. Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalance

Oilers (Trey: 3, Chris: 5, Andrew: 9) Average: 5.67

Avalanche (Trey: 1, Chris: 2, Andrew: 14) Average: 5.67

7. New York Rangers (Andrew: 5, Chris: 6, Trey: 10) Average: 7

8. Tampa Bay Lightning (Trey: 6, Chris: 8, Andrew 10) Average: 8

9. New Jersey Devils (Andrew: 7, Trey: 8, Chris: 10) Average: 8.33

10. Florida Panthers (Andrew: 6, Trey: 9, Chris: 11) Average: 8.67

11. Dallas Stars (Andrew: 8, Chris: 9, Trey: 11) Average: 9.33

Stars: “The Stars have definitely been a pleasant little surprise. Jake Oettinger has continued to do wonders in the crease while the rest of the team has actually looked solid under Peter DeBoer. The acquisition of Mason Marchment from Carolina has been an absolute game changer. He has allowed the entire top-six to thrive while also adding a physical edge. I am looking forward to seeing what Dallas has got in store for us.” – Chris Bagdonas

12. Toronto Maple Leafs (Trey: 12, Andrew: 12, Chris: 19) Average: 14.33

T-13. Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo (Trey: 13, Chris: 15, Andrew: 17) Average: 15

Sabres: “Yes, I have the Sabres 13. Deal with it. They’re good. I don’t know what you want me to tell you. The early signs on Owen Power are good, but Rasmus Dahlin has turned into a monster. Combine that with the continued development of Tage Thompson. Alex Tuch is also really good. They’re getting quality starts in net too. Playoffs are very much in reach.” – Trey Daubert

Pittsburgh (Andrew: 11, Trey: 14, Chris: 20) Average: 15

15. Washington Capitals (Chris: 13, Trey: 16, Andrew: 20) Average: 16.33

16. Minnesota Wild (Andrew: 13, Trey: 14, Chris: 22) Average: 16.67

T-17. Los Angeles Kings and New York Islanders

Los Angeles (Andrew: 15, Trey: 20, Chris: 21) Average: 18.67

Islanders (Chris: 17, Andrew: 18, Trey: 21) Average: 18.67

Islanders: “The Islanders are such a hard team to get a read on. One day, they’re dead in the water, and another day they’re playing lights out. However, I have a feeling Lane Lambert will have them playing more like the team that took down the Avalanche, Hurricanes and Rangers consecutively, rather than the one that lost to the Devils and both Florida teams.” – Chris Bagdonas

19. Winnipeg Jets (Chris: 12, Trey: 23, Andrew: 23) Average: 19.33

20. Detroit Red Wings (Chris: 16, Andrew: 21, Trey: 22) Average: 19.67

21. Philadelphia Flyers (Trey: 17, Chris: 18, Average: 25) Average: 20

22. Ottawa Senators (Trey: 19, Chris: 22, Andrew: 22) Average: 21

23. Seattle Kraken (Andrew: 16, Chris: 24, Trey: 25) Average: 21.67

T-24. Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues

Nashville (Andrew: 19, Trey: 24, Chris: 25) Average: 22.67

St. Louis (Trey: 18, Andrew: 24, Chris: 26) Average: 22.67

26. Chicago Blackhawks (Chris: 23, Andrew: 28, Trey: 28) Average: 26.33

27. Montreal Canadiens (Trey: 26, Chris: 27, Andrew: 27) Average: 26.67

T-28. Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets

Vancouver (Trey: 27, Chris: 28, Andrew: 29) Average: 29

Columbus (Andrew: 26, Chris: 29, Trey: 32) Average: 29

Columbus: “Johnny Gaudreau’s decision to sign with Columbus over New Jersey is just so dumb and looks dumber by the second. Gaudreau hasn’t been terrible himself, but his new team defense is. Through ten games, Columbus has -18 goal differential which is worst in the eastern conference.” – Trey Daubert

30. Arizona Coyotes (Trey: 29, Chris: 30, Andrew: 32) Average: 30.33

31. San Jose Sharks (Trey: 30, Andrew: 31, Chris: 31) Average: 30.67

San Jose: “It’s hard to think of another team looking more miserable than the Arizona Coyotes. However, this is exactly what’s happening for the Sharks. Despite Erik Karlsson having a career revival for the ages, it’s not enough to stop this rebuild from looking more and more bleak. It could get worse as their win-now pieces like Karlsson or Timo Meier could be out the door as we approach the trade deadline.” – Chris Bagdonas

32. Anaheim Ducks (Andrew: 30, Trey: 31, Chris: 32) Average: 31

Keep Your Eyes Peeled!

We should be having a great season of NHL hockey ahead of us! Check back everyone once in a while for more power rankings as the season continues.
