The NFLPA Game is officially dead. That’s one fewer collegiate All-Star game that we’ll get to see leading up to the NFL Draft. In fairness, I have been covering the NFL Draft for a long time and can’t recall a single player making a difference that came from the NFLPA Game. It’s a tier-down from the guys that even get invited to the East-West Shrine game.
The NFLPA is now shifting in a different direction. They will now partner with the Senior Bowl moving forward.
I’m not really sure what the point of this deal is, but maybe this nugget will help explain things.
“To be the presenting sponsor of the 75th Senior Bowl is a tremendous opportunity,” NFLPA COO Teri Smith said in a statement. “Our union is looking forward to honoring the many great player members who have been a part of this game’s rich history while also continuing our commitment to engage with some of our brightest future members.”
I’m still not totally understanding it. So the NFLPA is paying money to sponsor the event so that NFL hopefuls can speak to veteran players? Not sure it totally adds up but whatever. The next iteration of the Senior Bowl will be held on February 3 in Mobile, Alabama. It will also be the 75th anniversary of the event. If this helps spice up the Senior Bowl, then maybe it’s a good thing. I just doubt that this will provide any value in terms of actually scouting the players at the event.
For those that are new to the site, let me also give you a quick peek behind the curtain. I’m blocked by the Senior Bowl social media accounts so I have no idea if they made this announcement themselves. Nagy is a clueless scumbag and I stand by every word I said years ago.
