Mookie Betts Doesn’t Care About Winning The MVP Award
The 2023 NL MVP Award is going to go down to the wire. It’s a dog fight between Mookie Betts and Ronaldo Acuna. However, if you ask Betts, he doesn’t care if he wins the award. At least that’s what he’s saying.
“I don’t know, man. MVP is cool, but it’s kind of irrelevant,” Betts said, according to the Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett. “We play to win the World Series. Individual goals are really cool, and some people play for that, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. But me, I play because I want to win. If I play good, cool. I would love to play well, but as long as we win, that’s all I care about.”
It also sounds like JD Martinez cares about it more than Mookie.
“He told me when he first signed, ‘Hey, we’re gonna get you that,'” Betts said. “That was kind of like a motivation thing to start the season. You set goals, right? You set goals, and you want to achieve them. Do the goals matter at the end of the day, especially the personal ones? Not really. But it was a goal that was set at the beginning, and you kind of forget about it until the time comes.”
I’m just going to give my take quickly and call it a day. Mookie has had an unreal season, but I think Acuna should win. The Braves are the best team in baseball. The award is called the MVP. Acuna has been the best player on a team that’s the best team in the sport. Acuna also became the first player in MLB history to join the 40-60 club. Acuna did something that’s never been done before. That sounds like a good tiebreaker to me!
