2023 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 4

We are entering the last week of September with a pretty solid Week 4 slot ahead of us, beginning with an in-division battle between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions Thursday night. That said, let’s dig deep into prognosticating who could be a fantasy football breakout candidate in Week 4. After a rock-solid Week 2, let’s see how we did in Week 3!

Rough week. Let’s bounce back with our Week 4 Fantasy Football breakout candidates below!

Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars offense is not off to the greatest start, and a byproduct of that is Trevor Lawrence. He’s logged only one week finishing as a QB18 or better — Week 1 against the Colts, logging 18.7 points — having thrown just three touchdowns to two interceptions against Indianapolis, Kansas City and Houston. Jacksonville will play Atlanta in London on Sunday, but I sense that Lawrence will get back on track. They go as he goes.

Najee Harris, RB, Steelers

Najee Harris’ struggles out of the backfield continue, and it doesn’t help that Jaylen Warren has been productive. Though Harris logged a season-high 19 touches for 65 yards (all rushing) in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders, and will face a Texans front that places has posted the fifth-worst rush defense EPA per play. Harris is due to have a big week on the ground, despite his lack of explosiveness.

Dawson Knox, TE, Bills

The Miami Dolphins have scored 130 points in three weeks while the Bills have scored 91. Their Week 4 battle could be prime for a shootout, and the 6-foot-4 Knox has yet to log more than five targets in a single game this season. He has tallied seven receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown through three games this year. There are plenty of mouths to feed, and rookie Dalton Kincaid has cut into Knox’s production, but he is too talented to not see more looks after racking up 97 receptions for 1,104 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2021-22. This week could be a good opportunity for him, fantasy-wise.

Daniel Jones, QB, Giants

It’s been a rocky start for the New York Giants through three weeks. They’ve logged just three first-half points and sport the NFL’s sixth-worst EPA per play. The Giants will be on 10 days rest ahead of their Monday night matchup against Seattle with Andrew Thomas, Ben Bredeson and Saquon Barkley all practicing. To his credit, Jones did perform well fantasy-wise against Arizona in Week 2 and I expect him to breakout again in Week 4.

Quentin Johnston, WR, Chargers

This is purely a pick based on Mike Williams‘ season-ending injury. Johnston is not worth a start in any league right now since he’s only been on the field for 22.3 percent of the team’s snaps thus far. The 2023 first-round pick still may not see the field more than Josh Palmer, but the Raiders secondary could unleash a promising opportunity to get his feet wet.
