The Minnesota Vikings fear that quarterback Kirk Cousins has torn his achilles in Sunday’s 24-10 win over the Green Bay Packers, according to head coach Kevin O’Connell. Cousins will undergo an MRI, but it appears that Cousins’ promising 2023 season is now over.

“The severity of that I do not know at this point, but I know that is what our fear is in the moment, and we will confirm that as soon as possible,” O’Connell said postgame Sunday. “Our locker room, every single player in our locker room, thinking about our leader, our guy right now. Just so proud of him. Proud of the way he’s played all season long. Whatever is the case, if we don’t have him for one snap or for the duration of our season, that will not change the fact of what I believe … the level that he played to this year and ultimately what he’s meant to me and our organization.”
Cousins got injured midway through the fourth quarter trying to climb up in the pocket, though he made the wrong step and collapsed almost immediately. He could not put any weight on his foot as he was exiting the field.
In the Vikings’ 24-10 win over the division rival Packers, Cousins completed 23 of his 31 attempts for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
If his season is indeed over, he ends with 2,331 passing yards, 18 touchdowns to just five interceptions, having completed 69.5 percent of his attempts with a passer rating of 103.5. This season marked Cousins’ final year of his contract in Minnesota, which could ultimately mean Sunday was his final game dawning purple and gold.
This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for updates.
