The Green Bay Packers have locked down EDGE rusher Rashan Gary. The two parties have agreed to a four-year, $107.5 million extension to keep Gary in Green Bay, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. The $107.5 million deal includes $96 million of new money and a $34.6 million signing bonus.
Gary entered the 2023 NFL Season in the fifth year of his rookie contract. The new deal will keep him under contract with the Packers through the 2027 NFL Season which is his age-30 season.
Gary’s entered the season coming off an ACL tear that prematurely ended his 2022 season. In his return, Gary has been placed on a snap count, but he has still been productive. In seven games, he has logged 4.5 sacks, eight quarterback hits and 15 total tackles.
In his career, Gary has played a massive role in the Packers’ defense. In five seasons, the Michigan product has 27 sacks, 62 quarterback hits and 150 total tackles.
The Packers will now be paying Gary like a premier edge rusher. Gary’s extension will make him one of the highest-paid pass-rushers and file him just behind Nick Bosa, T.J. Watt, and Joey Bosa. That puts Gary in elite company.
The Green Bay Packers now have a good portion of their key defensive pieces under contract. The Packers recently signed Jaire Alexander to a massive deal. Although, Kenny Clark will need a new contract to keep him in town past the 2024 season. That is highly important for a team with a quality defense. Not to mention, the defense will need to play to help overcome the team’s offensive struggles.
