Miles Sanders Wants More Touches

Miles Sanders Wants More Touches

Miles Sanders is a prime member of the Don’t Eat The Cheese list for fantasy football this year. Well, actually he finds his name on that list almost every year.

Why?

The Eagles never give him the football. The former Penn State product averaged 5.5 yards per carry last season but it only came in 137 attempts. He also failed to score a single touchdown last year as the starting running back. NOT ONE.

Sanders is being vocal about the fact that he wants more touches and a bigger opportunity in the offense. With Sanders heading into the final year of his rookie contract, it’s not hard to understand why Sanders is pushing for more carries.

“Being more consistent,” Sanders told Clark. “I’m going to be honest: Opportunities. I’ll just say it simple like that. I need to be more consistent, but I need opportunities.”

Sanders, 25, has averaged 12 carries and three receptions per game over the course of 40 games played. Not exactly the type of volume you can expect from a starting running back. I just don’t see how it’s any different in 2022. We have three straight years of evidence that this is his role. Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell will get their touches too.

There has also been talk that Jordan Howard might return. That appears more likely if the Eagles aren’t thrilled with Kennedy Brooks who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma. I just fail to get the sense that Sanders will get his wish for more touches. Jalen Hurts being a running quarterback only further takes those chances away.

I don’t blame Sanders for wanting more carries but it’s the exact reason why I want no part of him in fantasy. Let someone else deal with this headache. Good player, just not nearly enough volume to be a reliable fantasy asset.
