Report: Mike Vrabel ‘Interested’ In Becoming Next Patriots Head Coach
With Black Monday here, the coaching carousel has officially begun. Both Washington and Atlanta have moved on from their head coaches, and it is a possibility that the New England Patriots could be moving on from Bill Belichick.
If they do decide to move on, it appears that they may not have to look for long, as there is already a coach throwing his name in the ring: Mike Vrabel.
According to former NFL GM Michael Lombardi on his podcast, GM Shuffle, Vrabel is “not real happy with the setup” in Tennessee with the Titans and there are “some real issues” in the building. ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported that Vrabel would be “open” to the idea of moving to a new team, and it sounds like the new team could be his old stomping grounds.
It is worth noting that Mike Vrabel is under contract with the Tennessee Titans for one more year, so to facilitate a move would mean that either Tennesse would have to fire Vrabel or New England make a trade for him.
Vrabel has gone 55-48 during his tenure with the Titans and 2-3 in the playoffs. He has changed the culture in Tennessee and it would be interesting to see how the Titans would go about replacing him.
I think that Vrabel would be a great replacement for Bill Belichick. Mike Vrabel spent the majority of his career playing for the Patriots, winning three Super Bowls with the team. He has the same no-nonsense attitude Belichick has, and a keen ability to coach up a defense. With the NFL getting progressively more offensive-minded, the key would be to bring in a really good offensive coordinator to pair with Vrabel. I think it could work.
