Mike Sullivan Praises Sidney Crosby’s ‘Unmatched Appetite for Hockey’
The 2023 NHL Preseason is underway and Sidney Crosby is back for his 19th NHL season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 36-year-old center has already cemented himself as one of the sport’s all-time greats – the statistics, individual accolades, and Stanley Cup titles speak for themselves. His head coach Mike Sullivan recently praised Crosby’s dedication to the sport, suggesting that it’s a little more than high-level talent that has gotten Sid into such revered territory.
Penguins team reporter Michelle Crechiolo tweeted out Sullivan’s words via @PensInsideScoop. Here’s what the Pittsburgh head coach had to say about his star:
“He watches hockey all the time. Not just our team, but other teams. I get texts sometimes at night when he’s watching another game, and it’s ‘Hey, did you see that Colorado play on the power play? That’s a really nice play. We should think about that.'”
Sullivan continued:
“He’s a student of the game in so many ways. I don’t think it’s by accident he’s as good as he is. He’s ultra-talented, without a doubt, but he has a certain appetite for the game that’s unmatched by any other.”
Earlier in the presser, Pittsburgh’s head coach also referenced Crosby as a great example to younger players:
“He represents everything that’s right in hockey and sports. A lot of these young players who look up to him should, for a number of reasons. I’m convinced players like Jake [Guentzel] and [Bryan Rust] are two guys who have benefited greatly from his example.”
The Pittsburgh Penguins play their fifth game of the 2023 NHL Preseason tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. They enter this season looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after missing the cut in 2023.
