Mike Mayock

Many pundits suggested that the Raiders may draft a quarterback in the first round with one of their three first round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Raiders may just control the draft for that reason. Today, coaches and general managers are speaking at the Scouting Combine. Raiders gm, Mike Mayock was asked about his quarterback situation. He offered a ton of clarity.

“We’ve got a young quarterback that we think is a franchise quarterback that’s going to be 28 in March, so we’re pretty happy with where we are,” Mayock said when asked about the QB position. “Especially with our backup, who we signed last year, McCarron. We feel like we’re pretty good at the quarterback position.”

“I think Derek Carr is a franchise quarterback,” Mayock said. “I truly believe that. Now, do I also believe that it’s a general manager and head coach’s job to keep their job open to improve any position on a football team? Sure. But I think it’s really difficult to try to improve over a franchise quarterback like the one we have in our building right now.”

If you’re a Raiders fan or NFL fan in general, I highly recommend watching this video. Mayock looks poised up there. He never says anything stupid. After years of working on NFL Network, he didn’t give away anything on draft prospects this year. The Raiders have become a punching bag recently but I have faith that Mayock actually knows what he’s doing. At least he sounded like in on NFL Network which is rare in this idiot day of age.

Carr finished the 2018 season 4,098 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 68.9 completion percentage.
