Mike Davis Has Sneaky Fantasy Potential In Atlanta

Mike Davis is the de facto starting running back for the Atlanta Falcons this upcoming season, and he could be the biggest fantasy steal that no one is talking about. A running back with the entire backfield to himself in an offense that should be able to score points? People need to start paying more attention to Davis’ unique opportunity in Atlanta this season.

Davis has significant fantasy upside this year, but he has flown under the radar nevertheless. After a pretty solid year in Carolina, Davis signed a free agent deal to head south and play for the Falcons. It is a story that should be getting more buzz for a few reasons.

A: There is virtually no competition on the roster. Something named Quadree Ollison is the backup, so Davis should be in for a huge workload in 2021.

B: Despite being washed up, Todd Gurley had a productive fantasy season in 2020, at least prior to his knees fully giving out on him.

The Falcons stink, but not because of the offense – the Arthur Smith hire should help ensure that they can score points and the addition of rookie tight end Kyle Pitts makes life easier for the offense as well. If the Falcons get a healthy Julio Jones for the season and fellow wideout Calvin Ridley remains his usual self, the Falcons’ offense could be dangerous.

The Falcons might have had the fourth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but they were 16th in points per game, right around average. The red zone opportunities are clearly there to be had. Davis was targeted 70 times in the passing game last season, so he clearly provides utility to the Falcons in that respect as well.

Davis might end up hanging around forever in your fantasy draft, but someone will realize that a capable starter with a full workload is staring them right in the face. The potential benefit that Davis could bring to a team drastically outweighs the risk of bringing him aboard, so pick up Mike Davis in your 2021 fantasy draft.
