Melvin Gordon: Running Backs Are Screwed
Melvin Gordon is somehow back in the league after the Ravens signed the former Wisconsin product to a one year deal. The deal is worth $1.165 million with no guarantees. With JK Dobbins on the PUP list, Baltimore felt that they needed more running back depth.
With Gordon back in the league, the former Chargers and Broncos running back chimed in on the current state of the running back market.

“We’re kind of screwed, I feel like, for the next couple years,” Gordon said Tuesday, alluding to the fact that the CBA runs through 2030. “So, the only thing we could do is just kind of stack it and just ball out.”
“At the end of the day, the talking and this and that is not going to get anything done,” Gordon said. “I think we just have to shine in the brightest moments when we get to the playoffs. The backs that are on that team got to take initiative to be like — you know what — I’m going to take over.”
Gordon added, “The league is changing, and it sucks to say it’s a passing league. But you still need a great run game. Let’s not get away from that.”
Gordon will be out of the league by 2030 so he doesn’t have to worry about it. However, give Gordon some credit. This might have been the best answer I’ve seen by a running back yet. It checks a lot of boxes. Yes, they are screwed and yes, it is a passing league.
If you want to get paid, go ball out. You’re just going to have to prove yourself over and over again. Guess what, the Ezekiel Elliott and Le’Veon Bell deals backfired. Maybe start barking at them if you want to get down to the actual problem.
