Melvin Gordon vs Austin Ekeler for fantasy? Neither.

Melvin Gordon vs Austin Ekeler? Which one should you keep? Should you go with the RB1 for the Chargers in Melvin Gordon? Or the electric passing option in Austin Ekeler? Well, neither. That’s right, I said it, neither. Get rid of whichever one you have. Sell them NOW. Why? Let me give you a Chick’s fantasy tip.

But Austin Ekeler?!

“But Chick, Austin Ekeler was the number 2 fantasy RB before Gordon came back!” AND? How has he performed for the last 2 weeks? 22.8 points 2 weeks ago, and only 5.8 points this week. Before you tell me “it’s just a bad game” it’s not, because this type of thing would happen last year as well. Ekeler would have a big game one week or be nonexistent the next. With Gordon, he is the epitome of BOOM or BUST. I will confess that I drafted Ekeler, solely for the fact that I thought Melvin Gordon would be out the whole year. But he pussied out and came back because he knew he would lose his job in Los Angeles if he didn’t. Now I’m trying to get rid of Ekeler for ANYONE I can get him for and nothing, no one wants him, because they know better

But Melvin Gordon?!

Melvin Gordon is the same story. He was a top 10 fantasy option last year. When Austin Ekeler is the lineup, he can either explode for rushing yards or become nonexistent if the passing game takes over. Along with a low fantasy performance with Ekeler, Gordon had a shitty day as well. Not saying he won’t have his days but are you really going to let fantasy games depend on that? You need consistent production in your lineup and he is far from consistent. He’s a big name and you could probably get some value if you trade him NOW.

I’m not saying they’re not great players, hell, they’re one helluva tandem, thunder and lightning. But fantasy is different and sometimes that’s hard for regular football fans, fantasy is it’s own beast and means something else when someone is great. I’ll give you an example: Jimmy Garoppolo is a great QB, I’d even put him top 10 QB in the league. He SUCKS as a fantasy QB, he’s currently ranked like 22 or something. Meanwhile, Marcus Mariota, who just got benched last week, is ranked higher than him in points. Sell Melvin Gordon or Austin Ekeler for anyone you can, get any starting RB for him and at least you’ll have consistent production.  This goes for all RB tandems, avoid them at ALL COSTS.  You don’t want your Fantasy Championship to come down to a boom or bust option. But that’s just a Chick’s fantasy.
