Matthew Judon Wants To Finish Career With Patriots
Bill Belichick has spent a lot of stupid money in free agency recently. The deal to bring in Matthew Judon, however, is likely not one the Patriots regret. Judon has 28 sacks in two years with the Patriots and loves playing in New England. So much so that he hopes to retire with the Pats.
“I don’t ever want to leave,” Judon told WBZ-TV’s Dan Roche during a trip to a glass-blowing studio in Providence, R.I over the weekend. “I’m finding stuff like this and just making it home and trying to be more a part of the community, so I honestly never want to leave. That’s not my intent. Forever. I want to retire here. I’m very comfortable. I love it.”
Judon, 31 next month, notched 15.5 sacks last season. The former 5th round pick out of Grand Valley State has been a great pick up since coming over from Baltimore. Judon deserved a payday in Baltimore but never got one. Judon notched 34.5 sacks during his Ravens tenure. The Patriots were smart to take advantage here and scoop up a talented pass rusher. Guys like this don’t grow on trees.
On paper, the Patriots don’t look very good entering the 2023-24 NFL Season. If New England is going to surprise people, this defense is going to need to be elite. More sacks from Judon would certainly help their case while battling in a loaded AFC East. That right there is half the problem. When is the last time the AFC East was loaded?
