Mark Gorscak Announces Retirement
The NFL Scouting Combine will never be the same again. Maybe I should say the 40-yard dash will never be the same again. The man who has been in charge of running the 40s at the NFL Scouting Combine has retired. Mark Gorscak, the long time Steelers scout, has called it quits and is sailing off into the sunset.
We just can’t have nice things. Why can’t we get a news announcement that Mr. make it all about me Rich Eisen retired from the 40? Now that would be ideal!
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette put out an interesting article about Gorscak’s retirement. They were able to get a lot of information from Gorscak about why he made the decision to retire. Below I’ll share the best quote that was put into the piece. You can just envision that moment every single time a future star takes the line at the Combine.
“I have young people come up to me and say I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” Gorscak said. “I said, ‘what the combine?’ And they said, ‘No, you starting me in the 40. I’ve been watching you since I was a little kid.’ That’s humbling.”
Gorscak spent 28 years in the business and he will be missed. Gorscak was always a no-nonsense guy. He was nearly perfect running the 40 every single year. He knew when to have guys reset and stopped them at their own benefit. Cheers to you, Gorscak. When that time comes again in March, it likely won’t be the same without him.
