Marcus Smart Cried When The Celtics Traded Him
Brad Stevens belongs in jail! They just need to add more time to his sentence for making Marcus Smart cry. Well, and lying to him too. The trade was emotional for the former Oklahoma State product and admitted that he cried when he found out that the Celtics swung a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.
VIA Grind City Media’s Chris Vernon:
“I’ve cried because of the special relationship I have with the guys,” Smart told Vernon, as transcribed by MassLive. “I grew up with Jayson (Tatum) and Jaylen (Brown) their whole career, all of those other guys, even Al (Horford). Like I said before, a lot of those guys, Al, Jaylen, Jayson and those guys, when my mom passed away they were there. They’ve been through tough times with me so it was tough. Not only that, I’ve been there my whole life so that was tough.”
“I also cried because I was excited as well because I get to start a new journey in my life. I’ve done everything I could do with that team. Jaylen and Jayson are great players and now it’s their time to grow into their own. That’s OK, that’s what it is but it was tough leaving those guys.”
Trading Smart was a mistake and we all know how this season will go unless the Celtics somehow pull off another drastic trade for a star (Zion?). A team that was just outschemed and outsmarted just lost ALL of its elbow grease. I have no idea how they replace it. It’s going to be another season where Boston likely comes up just short and all eyes will be on the guy that has a clam between his legs in the front office.
