After Bradley Beal was traded, we know the teardown in Washington is coming. Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma are also likely to depart the Nation’s capital this offseason. Ahead of Thursday’s NBA Draft, the Celtics are pulling off a blockbuster trade involving Kristaps Porzingis!
UPDATE: The Celtics have finalized a different trade for Porzingod. The Clippers are no longer involved. Instead Memphis jumps in and will be sending Tyus Jones to Washington. Marcus Smart is heading to Memphis. It also appears that the Celtics are getting two first round picks as well.
The Grizzlies are sending 2023 and 2024 first-round picks to the Celtics, sources tell ESPN. Grizzlies are sending No. 25 on Thursday night and 2024 pick via Golden State for Smart.

The rumors on Porzingod started way earlier in the day. Check out this report from Shams Charania at The Athletic. Shams says it’s likely Porzingis opts in and figures out a sign and trade. The Celtics are the team mentioned in his short little video. Later it’s revealed that the Celtics will become the landing spot.

Sources: Wizards, Celtics and Clippers are in strong talks on a trade that would send Kristaps Porzingis to Boston, Marcus Morris and draft compensation to Washington and Malcolm Brogdon to Los Angeles. Sides are still working through details and Porzingis’ $36M player option.

Porzingis, 27, averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 65 games (32.6 MPG) in 2022/23. The former Knicks first round pick in 2015 also posted a shooting line of .498/.385/.851. It was probably the best year of his career. Porzingis will need to stay healthy again for this potential deal to be worthwhile for the Celtics.
As you can see by the embed, I’ve wanted Porzingis on this team for a long time. Maybe Porzingod will find his way to Boston at just the right time as this team starts to head into their prime. As a third guy? This makes a lot of sense. We thought Brad Stevens actually listened to me. Malcolm Brogdon was someone this team never needed and failed them when the season was on the line as predicted. Instead, they failed to move him because of injury and now the Celtics lost Smart. That part is always going to sting.
