Marcus Maye will be with the Jets for at least one more year as they announced they have used the franchise tag on the safety. Adam Schefter broke the news via Twitter.
This comes after his agent Erik Burkhardt sounded off on Twitter about the Jets treatment of their captain and “best player”
“Yet refused to take care of their best player, Captain & team-voted MVP in his prime who had several All-Pro votes… and who played out his entire rookie deal and even changed positions on his contract year (after they got rid of last years All-Pro Safety”
Erik Burkhardt on Twitter
The Jets are lucky the Texans have been so incompetent this year and hogging all the headlines when it comes to NFL franchises. The Jets have the worst roster in the league, and are setting themselves up for disaster if they draft another quarterback.
They hired Robert Saleh from the 49ers this off-season and are in a full blown rebuild. The former defensive coordinator obviously wanted to keep Maye around for his first year with the Jets.
Maye started all 16 games for the Jets this year recording 2 interceptions and almost 90 tackles. He has started 54 games since being drafted in 2017 in the second round. He was drafted the same year as Jamal Adams, who was traded last year to the Seahawks after a public fallout.
Maye might be one of the few legitimate players on the roster in 2021, he has been moved around in the secondary and has proven he is capable of playing in the NFL even with all the bullshit the Jets have been through since he was drafted.
TL//DR: Marcus Maye is staying with the Jets for at least one more year after they used the franchise tag on the safety.
