Manchester United Outcast Sancho Returns To Dortmund On Loan

Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho rejoined Borussia Dortmund on loan on Thursday. The 23-year-old Englishman’s loan deal lasts until June 2024. He remains under contract with United through 2026.

Despite moving to the Red Devils for a hefty $93 million transfer fee back in 2021, Sancho has failed to find his footing in the Premier League. The forward has not played a minute for the club since August and has been exiled from the first team for the past few months after lashing out at manager Erik Ten Hag’s decision to drop him from the squad during United’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal earlier this season.

In total, he has made 82 appearances for United and has scored 12 goals for the club. This is a far cry from what many thought Sancho would accomplish in the Premier League after his astonishing performances with Dortmund, and the former wonderkid will now try and refind his form in the Bundesliga.

“When I walked into the changing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’. I know the club inside out, I’ve always been very close to the fans here and I’ve never lost contact with the people in charge,” Sancho said. “I can’t wait to see my teammates again, get out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, get assists, score goals and help the club qualify for the Champions League.”

The Englishman made 137 appearances during his prior spell with Dortmund, scoring 50 goals and providing 64 assists during his four years in Germany. He also helped the club win the 2021 DFB-Pokal.

“Jadon is an absolute difference-maker and I’m looking forward to seeing him in Black & Yellow again soon,” Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl said.“He knows this city, SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, our fans and our club. Even though he hasn’t played any competitive games in recent months, we’re sure that he’ll quickly settle back in with us, find his best form and help us to achieve our season objectives with his qualities.”

Dortmund is currently in fifth place in the Bundesliga, 15 points back from the high-flying Bayer Leverkusen side currently leading the title race.
