Magic Johnson Steps Down As Lakers President

LeBron James killed another executive? Well, maybe. In a shocking turn of events, Magic Johnson will step down as Lakers president. It’s not been a good year for the Lakers and the Magic Johnson departure only creates more havoc inside the organization.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN was the first to report the news:

This news really comes as a direct correlation to a report from Bill Oram which suggested that Johnson has been viewed as an “absentee executive.” Woj later chimed in and claimed that Magic was never truly invested in the Lakers to begin with. Magic never did any scouting and really did his own thing I guess. I assume that Magic will now spend his time vacationing and owning the Dodgers.

Magic didn’t even have the stones to tell Jeanie Buss that he was quitting:

“Somebody’s going to have to tell my boss because I knew I couldn’t be face-to-face and tell her,” Johnson said, per Oram. “… I couldn’t stand to tell her.”

This franchise is just a mess. I don’t even know where to begin. Constantly leaking things to the media with trade talks and dismissal rumors of Luke Walton. The LeBron James thing has been a total dumpster fire. Now Magic Johnson just flat out quit. They can forget about Anthony Davis while they’re at it. Who the hell would sign up for this mess?

The Lakers somehow turned into the Cavs. We knew the Lakers were a bit of a mess but they turned into full-fledged Cleveland. How the hell did this happen? I truly don’t know what’s next for the Lakers. Where’s the plan? How the hell do they turn this around? Playoffs? The Lakers don’t seem close.

*Woj has also added that virtually the entire coaching staff will be let go after the final Lakers game of the season.
