Despite having Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin, the Pistons have underperformed. They sit currently in the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference. I personally, before the season, had them floating around the 8th seed. Perhaps pushing for a playoff spot. If they are underperforming now, I highly doubt they will be able to turn it around. I posted an article not too long ago on how the Detroit Pistons can fix their mess. It included 3 things that they need to do. One of those things was to build around one of their best young pieces in Luke Kennard.
Luke Kennard Stats
Luke Kennard is coming into his own as an NBA player. He has improved on the stat sheet consistently every year. Now in his 3rd year, he averages 15.8 PPG on 44.2% shooting, 4.1 APG, and 3.5 RPG. He’s doing a little bit of everything for the Pistons. Kennard is their 3rd leading scorer on the team, behind Derrick Rose and Andre Drummond. That is to be expected. He is also 2nd on the team for assists behind Derrick Rose. He averages almost 3 3s a game. Even though it is at a 40% clip, that is still good.
Things don’t look too particularly well for the Pistons. They don’t have a bad squad, they just aren’t winning enough. They should sell at the deadline along with other teams. The Pistons have Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, and Derrick Rose that they can trade. Luke Kennard is a great young player. The Pistons need to move their focus around Kennard and just properly rebuild. They can tank now and next season for two other great draft picks. Then, have tons of cap room for the legendary 2021 Free Agency class. That way, they have Luke Kennard, two good draft picks, and tons of cap to contend for the 2022 season. Luke Kennard should be the focal point of the Detroit Pistons. If done right, Luke Kennard will be the face of the Pistons franchise, as he should be.
