Kyler Murray: It’s Time For The Cardinals To Contend

Kyler Murray and the Cardinals are ballin’ right now. They had fans wondering before the season if they could make the jump to playoffs. They’re now letting everyone know they’re here to compete. That’s not enough for Kyler Murray though, he says it is time for the Cardinals to contend. The full quote provided by ProFootballTalk:

It’s time,” Murray said, via Kyle Odegard of the team website. “It’s Year 2. There’s not time to wait around and say, ‘We’ll do this in Year 6 or Year 7.’ You never know. You never know when your last snap is going to be. I’m always striving to get better, always striving to be the best.”

I love the sense of urgency of Kyler Murray. He knows what the league is about, we’re here to win and win often. There’s no time to fuck around. He wants to win in Year 2 and I am all for that. Currently, the Cardinals will make the playoffs as a wild card 6th seed with a 5-3 record. However, they are only 1 game behind the NFC West leader the Seattle Seahawks who are 6-2. That’s only half the games they have played so far. Nothing is set in stone and the Cardinals could end up winning the division.

Kyler Murray himself has been on a tear. Continuing his great start as a rookie last year. He currently has 2,130 passing yards, 16 TDs, and 7 INTs. For running the ball, he has 543 yards and 8 TDs. At this pace, he will have 4,000+ passing yards, 1,000+ rushing yards, 30+ passing TDs, and 15+ rushing TDs. That’s amazing. No other QB in the history of the NFL has ever thrown for 4,000 passing yards and has 1,000 rushing yards.

“I feel like I’m the best player on the field,” Murray said. “I always have the ball in my hands. It’s my job to lead the offense down the field and put touchdowns up. I don’t limit myself to any amount of time needed or years or anything like that. I’m obviously a lot more comfortable in understanding the offense. Our guys are more comfortable. We’re playing a lot better.”

Yeah, I would say the Cardinals are playing a lot better this year Kyler, sheesh. The Cardinals are a team to watch in the NFC. I have no idea how far they can go in the playoffs, but I would be carefully dismissing them as a threat.
